Invitation to AITVN Workshop on Financing the bio- and renewable energy sector in Vietnam,15 July 2010, HCMC 09.07.2010 Financing the bio- and renewable energy sector in Vietnam Forum meeting Venue: Sofitel Saigon Plaza, 17 Le Duan Boulevard, Dist. 1, HCMC At: 8h00 On: 15th July 2010 To: Dear Madame, Dear Sir, Under the regional TCP on Renewable Energy for Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation (TCP/RAS/3202D) Program, the Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam (AITVN) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) invites you to attend a one-day meeting to share knowledge on investment and financing options for bio- and renewable energy (BRE) in Vietnam. The Project is carrying out extensive assignments in Vietnam with the purpose of mapping ongoing bio- and renewable energy (BRE) and identifying constraints and possibilities associated with these. At the national workshop in October 2009 in Hanoi, it became evident that stakeholders in the sector consider the lack of affordable and accessible sources of financing for their projects to be an obstacle to developing the BRE sector. With this thematic study, we wish to conduct an assessment of the financing of BRE sector in Vietnam and seek to improve financing through direct consultation with those involved in this sector. AITVN is the lead implementing agency for this assignment. To be effective in this task, AITVN would first like to consult and engage knowledgeable and motivated, locally based experts to chart a path forward. This meeting will be attended by representatives from FAO, AITVN, national and local governmental agencies, international financial institutions and private enterprises currently involved in investment, financing and producing bio- and renewable energy in Vietnam. The program clearly articulates the objective, structure and desired outcomes of the meeting. You will also find that the meeting will be interactive involving limited presentations from informed group members and mostly panel discussions, group brainstorming, and focused group discussions. We anticipate that participants will arrive prepared and ready to share their views and experiences leading to the elaboration of the solutions. The meeting will take place at Sofitel Saigon Plaza on the 15th of July 2010, promptly at 8h00.
