> Two stage Ph.D in Environmental Technology & Management
 

Program Introduction:

The School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) of AIT in collaboration with AIT Center in Vietnam (AITCV) offers is offering a new two-stage doctoral program in ETM. The program is designed for professionals and university teaching/research personnel in Viet Nam and possibly Laos and Cambodia, who are seeking for integrated international and holistic perspectives in their professions. This Ph.D program will be delivered in two phases: the first phase is in AITCV, preceded by a six-week of Bridging and one Semester and the second phase is last for five semesters in AIT/SERD, Thailand. For those students who cannot continue for the Ph.D degree, a certificate (13 credits), or a diploma (25 credits) will be given.

Program structure:

Stage 1: 1st semester course work in AITCV
In this first semester (5 months) at AITCV premises in Hanoi, the 4 fundamental courses with 12 credits will be offered. The courses taken must be relevant to his/her Ph.D thesis and agreed by his/her thesis advisor as well as approved by the course instructor. Student who passes the cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 can come to AIT Bangkok to complete the research/thesis. Those who cannot continue to Stage 2 will be provided with a Certificate.

Stage 2: 2nd and 3rd years course work and dissertation in AIT
In the second semester, courses will be selected with the guidance of an advisor from among the regular courses in Environmental Field of Study offered at AIT. After completing the coursework, students will spend the remaining fourth semesters in AIT for dissertation work.

Stage 2: at AIT, Thailand

Sem 3 to 6:

  • Dissertation, at AIT, Bangkok. A short period for data collection in Viet Nam may be possible depending on the thesis topics.

To apply for admission, applicants must complete and submit the following documents:

  3. 3 A completed AIT Application for Admission (Form 1)
  4. Two letters of recommendation from named referees (Form 2)
  5. Application for AIT Financial Aid (Form 3) only if applying for AIT financial aid
  6. Official attested Transcript(s) (Form 4)
  7. Copy of degree Certificate(s) in English
  8. Evidence of Proficiency in English
  9. Research Proposal
  10. Nomination letter from the candidate's organization.

Fee & Scholarships :

Students enrolled in the two-phase doctoral ETM program will be jointly supported by AIT, international donors, and either the State Funding Program of MOET or their respective corporate employers. There are numbers of available scholarships for Ph.D candidates from State Funding Program of MOET

Total tuition fee for Two-Stage Doctoral students is indicated in the following table with a fellowship of 17 credits waived (waiving 5 credits for 1st stage and 12 credits for 2nd stage) for doctoral candidates from the Vietnamese Government and/or the corporate employer.
