Program Introduction:

The training needs in higher education in Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management (DPMM) in Vietnam are significant. The AITVN's Professional Master in DPMM timely response to these needs. It will provide the participants with necessary knowledge and skills to assess the disaster risks, plan and implement necessary measures for disaster risk reduction and/or disaster impacts mitigation.
The targeted students are managers and technical experts in disaster-related Departments and Programs of various governmental organizations and non-governmental organizations.

Program structure:

The Professional Master in Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management (PM-DPMM) is a one-year academic program, spanning 2 semesters and a summer period.
Students will obtain the AIT's Professional Master Degree in Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management (PM-DPMM) by completing a 33-credit curriculum study, consisting of 24 credits of coursework, 6 credits of research study and 3 credits of internship/international field trip.

Faculty :

Teaching faculty members are from various schools of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) based in Bangkok- Thailand and many international partners such as Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University, Japan, etc.

Entry requirement :

  • Bachelor degree in an appropriate field of study
  • Minimum of 3 years working experience in a related field
  • Certified proficiency in English

Selection of candidates will be based on previous academic performance and professional experience. There will be an interview organized in Vietnam for the final selection. To apply for admission, applicant must submit to AITVN:

  • A completed AIT application form
  • A certified copy of undergraduate certificate (in English)
  • A certified official student transcript (in English)
  • Two (02) letters of recommendation
  • A certificate of English language proficiency

Professional Master program in Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management (PM-DPMM) will be delivered as follows:

  • Friday (evening)
  • Saturday (full day)
  • Sunday (full day)

Venue and Time

The first PM-DPMM batch will be at AITVN, Hanoi, Vietnam starting in January 2011.

  • Registration fee : $ 500
  • Tuition fee ($430/credit): $ 14,190
  • International field trip : $ 1,750*
*Note: Fee for international field trip will be reimbursed if applicants do not expect to join.
