Program Introduction:

The Telecommunication Program at AIT has been offering Masters and Doctoral programs in Telecommunications since 1991 producing more than 500 graduates to date. The students come from public and private sector companies as well as sponsored from different regional governments. Since the beginning Telecom has been supported by the Government of Finland in terms of faculty and funding. Since 2000 the Program has been working with National Institute of Communication Technology (NICT), Japan and established many links with various Japanese Universities through NICT. Telecom has been offering a dual degree program with Institute des National Telecommunications (INT), France at Masters level. Recently similar dual degree program at the Doctoral level was signed with Center for Wireless Communications (CWC), University of Oulu, Finland. A similar program at Masters level is currently being negotiated with them as well. The program also established a Symbian Development Training Center officially approved by NOKIA. This acts as a regional training center. The Telecom program together with the Computer Science program offers a new interdisciplinary field of study in ICT, supported also by the Government of Finland. In 2009, Telecom program is expected to expand its activities to regional countries, e.g., Sri Lanka-Undergraduate program, Vietnam in terms of Professional degrees as well as undergraduate program. The first ever undergraduate program in AIT, Thailand is to be launched in TC-ICT in October 2009.

Target Applicants

Applicants to the Program can be professional and staff who are working in the Telecom Departments, telecom business sectors, who have technical background in IT, ICT and Telecommunication and would like to develop their knowledge and skills in telecommunication business with a world class professional degree without the need to leave the job.

Graduates from this Professional Master Program in Telecommunications Business and Management (PMTBM) will be able either to address current problems or manage the change of technologies in telecom sectors or become managers in Telecom businsss sectors.

Program structure:

  • AIT Professional Master Degree (for professionals who have at least 3 years of work experience)
  • Taught by AIT Faculty
  • Practical curriculum
  • Duration: 1 year with possible extension
  • Classes are delivered in the evenings and on weekends
  • Graduation at AIT Bangkok Thailand
  • Students can take any course as a certificate course and accumulate certificates toward the AIT Degree.

Program curricula:

Professional Master Degree in Telecommunication Business  and Management

The program will be delivered totally in Vietnam within 12 months divided in 3 semesters. The Program will be based on 33 credits out of which 27 credits will be course work based and 6 credits will be a research project

Research Project: topics of the research projects will be identified at the beginning of the Program for each student. The topics will be focused on Telecommunication services, business and management of their company. 

The coursework shall be divided in two components:

Management component: 21 credits:

Core courses: To provide the background knowledge

1.         Organizational Behavior (2 credits)

2.         Business Communication (2 credits)

3.         Mathematical Techniques for Business (2 credits)

4.         Marketing and Operations Management (2 credits)

5.         Cooperate Ethics (1 credit)

Operational courses: with specific attention to Telecom

6.         Financial Management (with emphasis on Telecom cases) (2 credits)

7.         Project Management (2 credits)

8.         Technology Road-mapping Strategies for Mobile Markets (2 credits)

9.         3G Product and Service Design (2 credits)

10.     Spectrum Management and Telecommunication Regulatory Aspects (2 credit)

Regulatory bodies, assignment & control, utilization and management, conservation.

11.    Management of Emerging Mobile Networks (2 credits)

Performance evaluation, management, Radio Access Network (RAN), core Back-Bone Network (BBN)

Technical Component: 6 credits

1.      Emerging Telecommunication Technologies (2 credits)

2.       Cellular Mobile Systems (2 credits)

3.       3G and Next Generation Wireless Systems (1 credit)

Architecture and Operation of UMTS and CDMA 2000, resource management, IMT-Advanced proposals: LTE-A, WiMax 802.16m

4.       Network Convergence (1 credits)

Research Project: 6 credits

Teaching schedule: The programs will be delivered in evenings and weekends

Entry requirement :

English Entry requirement: AIT is an international institute with English as the sole language of instruction. Admission to AIT requires proof of English language proficiency which may be satisfied in any of the following:

  • IELTS (4.5)
  • TOEFL (Paper - based: 500; Computer-based:173; or Internet-based: 61)
  • AITEIT (4.5). Applicants can apply for English Test offered by AIT at AIT-VN. English Test fee:  20 USD

English Training Program: AIT-VN  will conduct 6 week intensive English training for those who need more English and academic skills before joining the program. The English Training Program also guide participants how to conduct AITEIT.

Entry requirement

To be eligible for admission to the AIT Professional Master Degree Program, an applicant must:

  • Hold a Bachelor degree (normally from a four-year program), or its equivalent, in an appropriate field of study in a related fields
  • Have strong undergraduate grades.
  • Have good command of English
  • At least three year of working experience

Fee & Scholarships :

Tuition fee can be paid as 3 installments and at the beginning of each semester. Total tuition fee: USD 12,050; including tuition fee (USD350/credit), registration fee, graduation at AIT). Break down of tuition fee are:

Registration fee:                                                                     500 USD

Tuition fee for 1st semester:        350 USD X 12 credits =           4,200.00 USD

Tuition fee for 2nd semester:       350 USD X 12 credits =            4,200.00 USD

Tuition fee for 3rd semester:       350 USD X 9 credits   =            3,150.00 USD
