Vietnam like many other SE Asian countries is rich in mineral and energy resources, including oil & gas. The lack of home-based professionals in prospecting for mineral resources, petroleum exploration and production, nearshore reclamation, and risk management leaves much of this wealth to remain untapped. To meet the rising demands in HR due to the fast expanding Oil and Gas industry in the region the master program in Geo-Exploration and Petroleum Geoengineering (GEPG) of AIT is now offered beyond the Bangkok campus with the one-year professional master program being delivered in Ho Chi Minh city in cooperation with the AITC Center in Vietnam (AITCV) and other academic partners such as Kyoto, Heriot Watts, Chulalongkorn, Oklahoma, Clausthal and ITC.

The GEPG program has been set up at AIT since the early 2000s. It is an application-oriented program that has received the supports from many donors, including the governments and national organizations, big oil and gas companies (Schlumberger, Chevron, PTTEP, PetroVietnam etc.).  So far, GEPG graduated at AIT 7 batches with a total of more than 40 graduates, many of them have completed or are pursuing PhD programs in well-known universities over the world as well as have become key staffs for a number of major oil and gas companies operating in the region.

The Professional master program in GEPG at AITVN had started in 2008. The PME-GEPG students come from well-known oil and gas companies in Vietnam such as Cuu Long JOC. Hoan Vu JOC, Thang Long JOC, Lam Son JOC, Con Son JOC, Truong Son JOC, Chevron, Noex, Salamander Energy and Pearl Oil

Program structure:

Students who expect to obtain a Professional Master of Engineering (PME) degree in Geoexploration and Petroleum Geoengineering will need to complete a 33-credit curriculum, consisting of 24 credits of course work and 9 credits of project work and/or customized courses over a period of  12 months (8 months of course work + 3 months of project work/customized courses)

Entry requirement :

To be eligible for admission to the AIT Professional master's program, an applicant must:

  • Hold a Bachelor degree (normally from a four-year program), or its equivalent, in an appropriate field of study.
  • Have undergraduate grades significantly above average.
  • Have good command of English
  • At least three year of working experiences

English Entry Requirement: AIT is an international institute with English as the sole language of instruction. Admission to AIT requires proof of English language proficiency which may be satisfied in any of the following:

  • IELTS (4.5)
  • TOEFL (Paper -based: 500; Computer - Based:173; or Internet - based: 61)
  • AITEIT (4.5). Applicants can apply for English Test offered by AIT at AIT-VN. English Test fee:  20 USD.

English Training Program: AIT-VN  will conduct 7 week intensive English Training for those who need more English and Academic Skills before joining the program. The English Training Program also guide participants how to conduct AITEIT.

Fee & Scholarships :

Total tuition fee is $US 13,800 including fee for an international field trip. Tuition fee is paid for 3 installments as below:

  • 1st installment:  Registration fee: 500 USD & Tuition fee: 350 USD X 12 credits = 4,200.00 USD
  • 2nd installment: Tution fee: 350 USD X 12 credits = 4,200.00 USD
  • 3rd installment: Tuition fee: 350 USD X 9 credits = 3,150.00 USD
  • International field trip (optional) is $US 1,750 including air ticket (roud trip), travelling, and accommodation
